Jerry Art Evans always donned head-to-toe-denim and was never seen without a camo boonie hat, scabbard, and Pitbull at his side. Known to those who loved him as Art and those who got into good trouble with him as Crab, Art was only called Jerry by the nurses and doctors that cared for him, like the chaplain who asked him what type of music he would like her to sing to him in his time of need. To which Art replied, hard rock.
A bit of an outlaw and a fully-committed hunter, Art once shot three deer's in one day, which is illegal. However, Art did not hunt for sport, and those deer, like all of the wild game he brought home, ended up on the dinner plates of his family. More comfortable in the woods than anywhere else, Art’s daughters remember holding squirrels while their daddy skinned them as vividly as they recall his knack for sharpshooting. Once, when one of Art’s daughters was playing in a puddle, he shot a snake at her feet over her head. Which she reports, made him her hero.
From the moment he first opened his eyes on July 06, 1949 until the second he passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, Art did things his own way at his own pace. And the world will never be quite the same without him.
