Obituary for Elton Dudley McEntyre

Elton Dudley McEntyre was born on March 6th, 1948 and passed from this life on March 30th 2021. He resided in Dalton, GA for the last 32 years with frequent visits “home” to Jonesville, Louisiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde Aaron McEntyre, Eunice McEntyre Sides, John Sides, and a great grandson.

Survivors include: siblings: Geneva Tosspon, Jerry McEntyre, Elbert McEntyre and wife Nancy, Vera Elaine Carlton and husband Clifton; daughters, Melissia Anne McEntyre, Melanie Lea Hastings and husband Jerry, Christi LeAnne Payne and husband Tommy, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Elton held many titles during his life such as: Son, Brother, Daddy, Elton, PawPaw, Dud, Dudley, Uncle Dud, Elmer, and some we will not mention. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He always tried his best at everything, but we all know everyone’s best looks a little different. Elton loved southern fried food, fishing, Miracle Whip, scrambled egg sandwich, strawberry shortcake, women, John Wayne, and Hershey Kisses, not necessarily in that order. He hated healthy food and lazy people, not necessarily in that order. The only way you knew if he didn’t like you was if he wasn’t picking on you. His favorite time was spent outdoors tending to his roses, tomatoes, hunting, and fishing. Boy, did he love to fish and tell a good story! He was true to every fisherman being sure the fish got bigger with each telling of the story.

Elton lived life laughing at any opportunity. He requested that his death be punctuated with moments of hysterical laughter, love, and unity.

“Looks like when they made this fella, they forgot to put in the quit,” Buster Scruggs.
