Hortence was born on Thursday, October 27, 1949 in Hereford, TX and passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 in Alexandria, LA. Hortence Townsend also known as Mrs. Shorty was born and raised in Port Arthur Texas, where she met her loving husband James Townsend Sr. After a few years living in Texas the two moved to Louisiana and started a small family. That small family became a very large and loving family. She loved all of her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much.
She and her husband attended Rosin Creek Pentecostal Church , where she taught Sunday school. Those children , who are now adults meant the world to her. Mrs. Shorty worked at Catahoula Council on Aging for over 20 years. She made a huge impact on her small community. She loved and cared for her elderly people and she always made sure that everyone had more than what they needed. Anyone who knew her knew she wasn’t very big but her heart made up for it in size. She will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Lee Lozano, Sr. and Lydia Mesaise Lozano; brother, Oscar Lee Lozano, Jr.; two sisters, Sara Landry and Delores Lozano; two brothers, Michael Lozano and Johnny Lozano; and step-daughter, Becky Wilson.

Hortence leaves behind her husband of 50 years, James Ray Townsend, Sr.; two sons, James Ray Townsend, Jr. and Joseph Lee Townsend & his wife Starla; daughter, Amanda Cotten & her husband James; brother, David Lozano; three sisters, Linda Trevino, Rosie Broussard, and Elizabeth East; 13 grandchildren, Brittane' Mayo, Garrett Townsend, Tyler Townsend, Ria Clark, Haley Townsend, Joshua Townsend, Zander Butts, James Ray, III, Anthony Parker, Jarred Parker, Felicity Crum, Reggie Womack, Lil' Ray, Jr., Andy Cotten, and Emma Cotten; and 12 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Jonathan, Judah, Halli, Dillon, Colton, Carson, Fallon, Chesney, Auburn, Raylynn, and Everly. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Townsend, Joshua Townsend, Jordy Sadler, Anthony Parker, Buckshot Roberts, and Lil' Ray, Jr.

Love Hortencia I’m sorry she passed so soon. I wished we could have made it up there sooner to reunite Phillip her nephew with her she cared for him as a baby and loved him and helped me learn how to care for him. I hope to see Hortencia in the future. Hugs and hugs and so much appreciation for her and James!

I worked with this sweet lady for three years at the senior center. She cared so for the seniors and would spend her own money for parties, crafts and in other ways so they could celebrate holidays and more. She was a hard worker and I appreciated all she did for the center. I know they will all miss her too! Love you Hortence and will miss the surprise cards you sent me via the mail. Your friend Debra
