Obituary for Jeannie Shields

A memorial service for Jeannie Marie Guillote Shields, 64 of Madison, MS will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 600 Bushley Street, Harrisonburg, LA under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Friends and family are welcome to attend.

Jeannie was born on August 22, 1956 in Beaumont, TX. She passed away, with her family by her side, on March 1, 2021 in Jackson, MS. Jeannie graduated high school in Harrisonburg, LA before joining the Army National Guard. She retired after 24 years as a Sergeant First Class (E-7). She was a resident of Madison, MS for 40 years.

Jeannie was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and homemaker. She was “Granny” to her 10 grandchildren and a host of great-nieces and nephews. Jeannie's garden was always a place of peace and joy for her. She loved spending days in her yard tending to her plants and flowers, just as much as she enjoyed acquiring vintage collectibles. Any trip with her always involved side trips to garden centers and antique malls for shopping adventures. She was a nurturer of animals, no matter how small. She always seemed to find a baby squirrel, raccoon or even a group of ducklings to rescue and care for until they could be sent back into the wild. More than anything though, she cherished the time she spent with her adoring grandchildren. Every birthday, holiday, or special occasion was a chance for her to make special memories with them.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Louise Guillote. She is survived by her husband, Roger Shields, of Madison, MS; two daughters, Sara Alston and her husband Andy and Jessica Buck and her husband Andrew; step-son David Shields and his wife Jennifer; step-daughter Dawne Honeycutt and her husband Jason; 10 adored grandchildren, Hannah Honeycutt, Kaitlyn Alston, Chase Honeycutt, Bryan Alston, Joshua Alston, Kylie Wright, Emilee Alston, Madalyn Alston, Landon Shields and Kaleb Buck; 4 sisters, Tricia Smith and her husband David, Stephanie Boothe and her husband Glenn, Mary Kathryn Leiper and her husband Bob, and Cindy Mount and her husband Douglas; and a brother, Stephen Guillote and his wife April. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Catahoula Parish Library, 300 Bushly St., Harrisonburg, LA 71340.
