Obituary for Kathryn Campbell

Kathryn Olena Davis Campbell, 95, passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2020. She was born on August 10, 1925 to Sabra (Havens) Davis and Howard Whitfield Davis in Vancleave, MS. She has lived in Wildsville, LA for the last 14 years, after living in Monterey, LA for 50 years.

Kathryn became a member of Monterey First Baptist Church when the family moved to Monterey in 1956. She served as Church Clerk for 28 years. She and Doris Rhodes were the first paid janitors for the church. They were paid $3 a week and saved that money to buy items for the church, such as the Sanctuary Pulpit furniture that is still being used in the church building today. She was the first secretary of Monterey High School and served in that capacity from 1965 to 1985, working with Principals O.R. Rhodes and Dr. Edgar Gibson.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Donald Ray Campbell; her six siblings: Mildred Rabby (Revis), Olin “Buddy” Davis (Nell), Thelma Delancey (Austin), Lula Moore (William), Henry Davis (Evelyn), and H.P Davis; son-in-law, Jimmy Wade and daughter-in-law, Estelle Campbell.

Kathryn is survived by her four children: Bobby Campbell (Mildred), Elaine Johnson (Darrell), Suzanne Wade and Mary Lee Ferguson (Robert); eight grandchildren: Scott Johnson (Dawn), Kristi J. Gueho (Brent), John Ferguson (Alaina), Aaron Wade (Jorie), Kathryn “Katie” F. Guidry (Barry), Nicholas Ferguson (Crystal), David Johnson (Jami), Sabra W. Hall (Dewayne); 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law: Dot Davis, and many nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at Monterey First Baptist Church, Monterey, LA at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastors Gene Lee (Rayne Baptist) and Curtis Smith (Evangeline Baptist) will officiate the service, music will be provided by Teresa Tiffee and Gerald Huffman. Pall bearers will be her five grandsons and great-grandson, Cody Martinez. A private family interment will be held at Monterey Baptist Church Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home, Ferriday, LA.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her personal caregiver, Rebecca Davis, the staff at LaSalle General Hospital, and Dr. David Barnard.
