It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Margie Thompson at the age of 92. She was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on August 5, 2023. Margie was a woman of unwavering faith and grace, serving as a pillar of strength and inspiration to her family, friends, and community.
Margie was born on April 21, 1931. From an early age, she demonstrated a profound devotion to her faith and a deep love for her fellow human beings. This love for spirituality would become a guiding force throughout her life.
Margie is lovingly remembered by her sister Shirley Pope; sisters-in-law Gloria Godbee (husband Buster) and Betty Crosby; children Pam Farris and Dennis Thompson, Sr. (wife Beverly); daughter-in-law Lesann Thompson; grandchildren Christopher Picou, Sr. (wife Ashleigh), Aaron Thompson (wife Holly), Dennis Thompson, Jr. (wife Angie), Kimberly Bourke (husband Andrew), Shannon Luce (husband Dave), Russel Smith, III (wife Heather), Patrick Smith (wife Ashley), and Doug Smith, Sr. (wife Katie); great grandchildren Julia Smith, Douglas Smith, Jr., Russel Smith IV, Garrett Smith, Mike Mauney-Luce, Paige Mauney-Luce, Magnolia Luce, Silas Luce, Marigold Luce, Rylan Bourke, Ethan Bourke, Dallas Thompson, Walker Thompson, TJ Picou (wife Shelley), Christopher Picou, Jr., Hanna Smith (husband Connor), Brockston Picou, Matthew Picou (wife Carson), Zach Curtis, Tyler Thompson, Jobie Thompson and Deacon Thompson; and great-great grandchildren Maggie Ryan Smith, Miller Smith, Elaine Picou, and Rowyn Picou.
She was preceded in death by her parents Earl Dennis and Pearlie Dennis; her brother Billy Dennis, her sister Jeanette Arledge, her husband Alton Thompson, her son Terry Thompson, sons-in-law Russel Smith, Jr. and James Farris, grandson Raimey Thompson, and great granddaughter Adeline Luce.
In addition to her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother, Margie was known for her warm hospitality and kindness to all who crossed her path. Her home was always open to friends and strangers alike, and her genuine interest in others made her a beloved member of her community.
Margie's legacy of love, faith, and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her unwavering belief in the goodness of people and her dedication to her faith left an indelible mark on the lives of many.
A funeral service to celebrate Margie's life will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 9am at Monterey First Baptist Church. Following, a burial service will be held at Monterey First Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 6pm-8pm. Pallbearers will be Patrick Smith, Doug Smith, Chris Picou, Douglas Smith, James Farris, and Dave Luce.
Though she is no longer physically present, Margie's spirit and influence will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones. May they find comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her loved ones in the arms of God and that her memory will be cherished and celebrated for generations to come.
