Graveside Funeral Services for Odessa Joline, “Jo”, Beeson Killen, 95, will be held at Friendship Cemetery, Pollock Louisiana on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 9 a.m., under the direction of Young's Funeral Home-Ferriday. A visitation will follow at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at her home on Lake St John.
Jo was born June 7, 1928, in Grant Parish to James Stanley Beeson, Sr. and Odessa Walker Beeson. She devoted her life to her family, and was blessed to have lived and raised four children on beautiful Lake St. John, where she passed away, August 8, 2023.
Jo, as she was known by friends, attended Tioga High School and Louisiana College. She was a life-long Methodist and member of Sevier United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed participating in the church choir. Jo was well-loved in her small community, and a member of the Ferriday Garden Club and the Bruin-Vidal Chapter of the DAR. She was a dedicated home-maker who loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth Knight Killen, Sr.; parents, James Stanley and Odessa Beeson; sister, Elizabeth Faye Beeson Killen, and husband Frank Killen; son, Bradley Killen; brother, William "Billy" Beeson; son, Stan Beeson; brother, James Beeson, Jr.; and son-in-law, Jim Huff, Jr.
Those to cherish Mrs. Jo’s memories are her children, Ken Killen and wife Honda Wyly Killen and Nan Killen Huff all of Waterproof, LA Kay Killen-Taylor of Lake St John, LA and Tracy Killen of Natchez, MS; eight grandchildren, Jimmie Jo Huff of Lake St. John, LA, Bryant Killen and wife Carlyle of Natchez, MS, Elizabeth and Douglas Hunter of Cleveland, MS, Thomas Taylor of Shreveport, LA, and Tinsley Taylor of Pearl, MS, Julia Williams of Marshall, NC, Eliza Williams of New Orleans, LA, and Edith Williams of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Audrey Faye Little of Lake St. John, LA and William, Jewel and Mary Carlyle Killen of Natchez, MS; sister-in-law, Ayme Besson; cousin, Joy Wilson; nieces, Sherry Earnest and Lorraine Dove; and nephew, Jimmy Beeson. Each has treasured memories of “Aunt Jo’s” or “Momee’s” presence in the family. Family Thanksgivings were a special time for the extended family, as well as playing on the lake each summer.
Pallbearers are her grandchildren: Jimmie Jo Huff, Bryant Killen, Julia Williams, Elizabeth Hunter, Eliza Williams, Thomas Taylor, Edith Williams, and Tinsley Taylor.
