Funeral services for Tommy Jean "T.J." Batey, 73, of Sicily Island, LA will be held at 11 AM at First Baptist Church Ferriday on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 with Bro. Thomas Worsham officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 PM until 7 PM at the church. Interment will follow at New Pine Hill Cemetery, Sicily Island, LA, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

T.J. was born on October 10, 1947 in Tallulah, Louisiana. She passed away January 16, 2021 at St. Francis Medical Center. T.J. graduated from Sicily Island High School in 1965. On July 31, 1965, she married her high school sweetheart, Dallas Batey. T.J. started working at the Sicily Island Post Office as a part-time clerk and retired as The Post Master of Gilbert, LA.

T.J. was passionate about people, music, loving her family, and serving the Lord. She was known for her kindness and was always quick to encourage those who needed it. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were well loved and brought her much joy. She could often be heard singing throughout the house as she worked. Her love of music inspired both of her children to become musicians as well as inspiring them to live a life of service. She loved serving at Ferriday First Baptist Church and treasured the many friendships she had there. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, organizing Vacation Bible School, teaching her Sunday school class, and serving in countless other ways. T.J. never had idle hands. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, and crafting. She loved her hometown, having moved there in the 6th grade, and served her community by serving on the Sicily Island Medical Center board. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 wife.

T.J. was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Daisy Warden.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dallas Batey Jr.; her son, Brian Batey and wife, Amanda; her daughter, Tracy Cole and husband Ray; her five grandchildren, Connor Batey, Nathan Batey, Noah Batey, Emma Ward, and Danielle Cole; her sisters, Leah Ready and Debbie Branham; and her brother, Tommy Brownfield.

Pallbearers will be Dan Merrell, Mark Welch, Deon Neal, Robbie Hargis, Terry Harvey and Roy Lance.
