Obituary for William Floyd "Billy" Nelson, Sr.
Funeral services for William Floyd “Billy” Nelson, Sr., 80, of Vidalia, LA will be held at The River Assembly of God in Vidalia on Monday, April 19, 2021. With visitation from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, with the service beginning at 12 with Bro. Shawn McMillan officiating. Interment will follow at Monclova Cemetery in Waterproof, LA under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Billy was born February 26, 1941 in Natchez, MS and passed away April 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He proudly served his country from 1959 to 1966 in the United States National Guard and toured in Germany and Berlin. Billy was a big country music fan and a lifetime truck driver with the CB handle of "Rough Rider". The last few years he was employed by River Corrections as a Transportation Officer in Ferriday, LA and retired from Miss Lou Electric/Trucking in May of 2020. He was a member of The River Assembly of God.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Dell Nelson and Mary Samantha Corley Nelson; grandson, Rickey “Bubba” Nelson; and granddaughter, Hannah Grace Nelson.
Billy leaves behind his wife, Norma Jean Cater Nelson of Vidalia, LA; son, William Nelson, Jr. & his wife Stacy of Waterproof, LA; son, Curtis Glen Nelson & his wife Missy of Ferriday, LA; daughter, Glenda Scott & her husband Tyler of Meadville, MS; 11 grandchildren, Tabitha, Miracle and Jon Christian Nelson, Haley Craft & her husband Cade, Michael Nelson & his wife Rachel, RJ, and Gracie Nelson, Jordan McLemore & her husband Brandon, Regan Scott, Morgan Stephens and her husband Duel and Lauran Scott; and great-grandchildren, Ella Grace, Ren, Dakoda, Caden, Parker, Bailen, Mathis, Nathan, and Sarah and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers will be William Nelson, Jr., Curtis Nelson, Jon Christian Nelson, Michael Nelson, Mark Frey, and Bruce Greene.
Honorary pallbearers are Sam Hudson, Carl Ryan, RJ Nelson and Ted Humphreys.
