I only saw Ronnie a few times after we graduated from Davidson High School, so my memories are of long ago. I had the pleasure of playing football, basketball, and baseball, and running track with Ronnie. He was the perfect teammate: an excellent athlete, a hard worker, and about as easy-going as they come. Ronnie and I ran the sprint relays in track, but at a meet in Winnsboro, our coach, Sonny Clark, realized that there were only three contestants in the high hurdles, and that points were given for five places. So, he sent Ronnie and me out to run the hurdles. Neither one of us had ever run or even practiced the hurdles. The gun sounded and we took off. The other three were skimming over the hurdles, barely slowing down. Ronnie and I hopped over the hurdles like they were a high jump bar, nearly coming to a stop on the back side of each one. The first three were crossing the finish line and Ronnie and I were only about half way through. I looked over at Ronnie and he was waving to our teammates in the stands, who were yelling and laughing. We finally finished in what had to be the slowest time ever in the event. But we got our three points.
I was able to keep up with Ronnie a little bit through Billy Green. I am sorry I did not get to see him one more time. My deep sympathies to his family and friends.

Always a smile, always a kind word or two. My favorite memory is float building at Skeeter's with him and Mitch working next to me. We had some good times and those guys kept me laughing. God's peace be with you Kaye and with with family and friends. A tough loss to take. He was loved and will be greatly missed by many.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4
